Photo doesn’t reflect the truth of packed classrooms

Re TDSB combines counsellors into new job, Oct. 21

The Toronto Star needs to start using a new photo of an elementary classroom during the pandemic. I’ve seen this one many times and it nowhere near reflects the reality of today’s COVID classrooms in the Toronto District School Board, where elementary classrooms regularly have 20 to 25 students and absolutely no social distancing. Your file photo in Thursday’s paper shows a classroom with nine desks, all six feet apart. It doesn’t exist.

I’m a retired elementary TDSB school teacher and my teacher colleagues often tell me they have to turn sideways to go up and down the aisles in present-day classrooms. Come on Star, let’s show the truth.
