Hwy. 413 is a bad idea at a bad time

Halton leaders are fighting against Ford’s GTA West highway; Brampton’s refuse to condemn it, Oct. 3

I welcome more coverage by the Star of Hwy. 413. This terrible proposal, so out-of-step with the times, is consistent with Doug Ford’s wish to please his base of developer and land speculation supporters.

Alternatives exist, as identified in a 2017 Expert Panel Study: truck subsidy on the existing Hwy. 407; congestion pricing; alternate land use and urban growth policies; and existing highway expansions and extensions. To reduce congestion, the money would be better spent on implementing these alternatives and expanding Milton and Kitchener GO express.
