Ontario voters will head to the polls on June 2. Have questions? We have answers.

Am I eligible to vote?

You must be 18 years of age, a Canadian citizen and a resident of Ontario.

How do I know if I’m on the voters list?

Elections Ontario maintains a permanent voters list. If you are on it, you will receive a voter information card in the mail between May 12 and 20. (Bring this card when you vote, plus ID.) If you don’t receive a card, you can add or update your information to the list by May 23 and still get a card. You can do this at elections.on.ca.

Uh oh, didn’t get a card and forgot to update the list. What now?

You can still vote. You just need to add your name to the voters list on the day you vote. To do that, bring a piece of ID that shows your name and residential address. You will also be asked to sign a declaration.

How will I know where to vote?

This information will be on your voter card. You can also enter your postal code on the Elections Ontario website. You can also download the Elections Ontario app for the information.

How do I find out who is running?

Once you enter your postal code on the Elections Ontario website, you can click to a page that lists the candidates in your riding.

What’s this about an Elections Ontario app?

Elections Ontario has launched a free mobile app for voter information that can be downloaded at the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store. You can use it to determine if you’re registered to vote, get a scannable version of your voter information card, see who is running in your riding and find your nearest polling station.

What if I want to vote by mail?

To register to vote by mail, you can apply online or by mail. The deadline to apply to vote by mail is 6 p.m. on May 27.

Can I vote if I live outside of Ontario?

If you are a Canadian citizen, 18 years of age or older and temporarily residing outside of Ontario, you can cast a ballot as an absentee voter. You are eligible for up to two years from the date you left.

What if I can’t vote on June 2?

This year, the number of advance voting days has doubled from five to 10. Advance polls will be open in every riding from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Thursday through May 28.

When will the results come out?

Polls close at 9 p.m.
