Suspect arrested after stealing police SUV

A suspect has been arrested after allegedly stealing a police vehicle with canines in the back before crashing it, police say.

Police were responding to a breakand-enter call Monday in the Keele Street and Lawrence Avenue West area just after 4 a.m., according to Toronto police.

A male suspect then took control of a K9 SUV, which sustained damage after a single-vehicle collision. Two dogs were in the backseat of the vehicle at the time of the incident.

Police say the suspect then allegedly tried to get into several vehicles at the crash scene, including a taxi, before police arrested him.

The suspect was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

Roads in the area were closed Monday for a police investigation but were later reopened.
