DORNE OLIVER COLLISON

December 12, 1948 December 3, 2022

It is with deep sadness that the family of Dorne Collison announce his passing, on December 3, 2022. Dorne is survived by his lifelong partner and devoted wife of 55 years, Angela Collison (née Holowatyj). He was deeply loved and will be forever missed by his three children, Kenneth Collison, Craig Collison (Lili), and Amanda Hartley. He is survived by a lively brood of nine grandchildren: Austin, Felix, Ryan, Finn, Violet, Rachel, Aurora, Zachary, and Elizabeth. Dorne was the youngest son of the late Harvey and Marion Collison; brother to David Collison (Ruth); and his late sisters, Carol Benson (Bruce) and Gloria McAlpine (Bruce). He grew up in Etobicoke and attended Etobicoke Collegiate Institute. Angie was among the friends he would walk to school with in twelfth grade. Their romance blossomed over cups of grape drink at Apache Burger, and they were married at Dorne's family home on November 11, 1967. Dorne studied at the University of Toronto and he began work at the family business, SMS Machine Tools Ltd., in 1969. In 1984, he became an owner of SMS and enjoyed a long, successful career there as Vice President. Dorne's leadership helped grow the company to become one of the largest and most successful machine tool dealerships in Canada. Dorne had an adventurous spirit, a character trait he lovingly imparted to Angie throughout their long marriage. Together they visited every continent, and were always talking about where to go next. From witnessing the great migration on the African plains, to taking in the vistas from Machu Picchu, to exploring the tombs protected by the Terra Cotta warriors, Dorne and Angie travelled the world and always returned home with stories of the wonderful people and places they visited. Angie never imagined she would view the world from the great heights of helicopters and hot air balloons, but Dorne was a persuasive voice and calmed her fears so they could have these experiences together. The stories from the trips taken with their three children evoke laughter, even now, as they are told over the dinner table for the millionth time. No matter where he was in the world, Dorne had an uncanny ability to nd the nearest craps table. It was never hard to nd him in the casino; all you had to do was follow the sounds of cheering and high ves and you'd nd him having the most fun of anyone at the table. Dorne's favorite bet was always Yo-Eleven on the comeout. He never failed to make this bet and when it hit you could hear Dorne's booming voice throughout the entire casino. His kids will always cherish memories of Boxing Day morning, waking up before sunrise to drive to Casino Niagara to shoot some craps and get the big breakfast with fresh squeezed orange juice at The Famous. Dorne spent many years as a member of the Weston Golf and Country Club, where he played countless rounds with his golf buddies. He shot two holes-in-one on that course, only a couple of weeks apart in 1992, and proudly displayed his commemorative trophies at home. He was also a gifted pianist. He loved to sit at the piano and play classical pieces and hymns from his childhood. This gift was passed down to his daughter and some of his grandchildren. The family would like to express sincere gratitude to Mary Grace Platon, Dorne's personal support worker, who provided impeccable, loving care to Dorne over the past year. We would also like to thank the sta at Kipling Acres Long Term Care Home and Etobicoke General Hospital, for their care and support of Dorne. Friends may call at the Turner & Porter Butler Chapel, 4933 Dundas St. W., Etobicoke (between Kipling and Islington Aves.), on Friday, December 9th, from 10 a.m., followed by a Funeral Service at 11 a.m. As an expression of sympathy, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Canada, or one of Dorne's favourite charities, which include The Salvation Army and The Scott Mission.
