The Red Sox made a splash with two free-agent signings, adding veteran closer Kenley Jansen (two years, $32 million) and outfielder Masataka Yoshida (five years, $90 million, plus $15-million posting fee to Orix). Yoshida was an on-base machine in Nippon Professional Baseball (82 walks to 42 strikeouts last season). He becomes the most expensive position player ever to make the leap from Japan.
