FORMER METROLINX EMPLOYEE SPEAKS OUT

STAR STAFF

Anne Marie Aikins, former head of communications for Metrolinx, saw a man in her subway car last Saturday screaming while on his phone. When his signal dropped, his rage intensified, she said. “I thought, ‘What good is it going to do if I pull the yellow strip?’ ” she said about the emergency alarm strip that runs above windows, along accessibility areas and near the doors of subway cars. “I was afraid (the train) would stop, and I didn’t want to be stopped in a tunnel with this man.” She couldn’t send a text message to the TTC’s incident reporting number since she’s with one of the big three telecoms. She opted to get off the train at the next stop and walked home.
