We can do better than Saunders

Former Toronto police chief Mark Saunders will run to become the city’s next mayor, March 21

I was hoping to get some insight into Mark Saunders’ plans, platform and “fresh ideas” on his desire to become mayor of Toronto, but all I got were platitudes.

Much of the focus was on “safety,” citing elementary schools and transit. Not a word about the lack of safety for the 88 pedestrians struck by vehicles in Toronto so far this year, or how Saunders’ expertise as a police officer would make our streets safer.

As Premier Doug Ford’s handpicked special adviser on Ontario Place’s redevelopment, tasked with providing “technical expertise and strategic advice” to the premier I was, at least, hoping to learn something of Saunders’ priorities for the city. Again, I got nothing.

Surely we can do better. Brigitte Nowak, Toronto
