Double standard on drinking in public places
Council puts a cork in booze pilot, May 13
Long-time Etobicoke Centre Councillor Stephen Holyday is well past his best-before date. Holyday justified his vote against Josh Matlow’s pilot project on drinking in public parks on the grounds that he grew up knowing “there were two places you could consume alcohol: in the privacy of your home, or in a licensed establishment” and that “there’s people that when you give an inch, they take a foot.”
Well, golly gee! It’s time to dump this Neanderthal. Maybe he should take a stroll through some of the city parks, like Christie Pits, where people bring coolers as they enjoy a day in the park.
Apparently, it’s OK to let the well-heeled pay $10 a beer at an indoor sporting event.
I would love to see someone more progressive run against this regressive councillor in October.
